Fun team building event starts with good planning. First we must decide purpose and goals of our event. Maybe your team is under stress or you want to develop better communication, team spirit, mutual trust and cooperation. Maybe you want to create new team or try to improve your current one. Or maybe you just want to leave your offices and spend time in relaxing and fun atmosphere.
What ever your goal is, there is few basic elements that every team building event should have so it could serve it's purpose.
1.Warm-ups
Before we start with solving problems and communication exercises, it's recommended to do one or more warm-up activities. This way we create positive casual atmosphere. At the start of the program most participants feel insecure because they don't know what exactly to expect. Good warm-up creates good mood and people are more prepared to learn.
2.Ice-breakers
First we make few smaller teams from initially bigger group and then we start with ice breaking games and create good working atmosphere.
3.Building mutual trust
We create trust between people much more with our actions that our words. On these events, we create non verbal understanding and that is basic of good human relationships.
4.Communication activities
Communication skills are necessary in every team. Trough these exercises we share our experiences and differences. This makes our connections stronger, mutual understanding deeper and that is good ground for a strong team spirit.
5.Problem solving
Purpose of problem solving activities is to teach us and develop skills that are necessary in today's business like: leadership, creativity and teamwork.
If a team works together for a longer period of time, we can focus on problems that are slowing our progress down. During event trainers estimate and slowly increase level of activities. In these activities we can include one or more teams. Some teams can work isolated.During the event trainers adjust activities when they see specific needs and problems.
Team building should be fun. This is the first and vital part. It is important not just to be part of the team but to enjoy experience as well. It's better to work with employees that you like and team building can do that.Trough time spent together, people see different, positive side of their coworkers. It's a great way to spend your time and get something useful from it.
Team building helps improving communication between employees and this is crucial for every team. This way we build mutual trust inside of team and increase teams efficiency. We can make better, and more important, completely free communication. More we communicate, more we know about each other and this creates better relations between coworkers. People who work together achieve biggest creativity and productivity in the open atmosphere of communication. There are specially designed games called "ice breakers" and team building events usually start with those activities.
Team building activities outside of office can help us to lower accumulated stress. During that time we learn to develop team spirit, confidence, and a lot more skills for individuals and the whole team. We are preparing for better coping in new situations and taking risks outside of our comfort zone. When coworkers are out together, it's a lot easier to brake down personal, political and all other barriers and just have fun.
To be fun, those events must be adequate for everyone involved. Paragliding, rafting, mountain biking and other extreme sports are not for everyone. So we must choose activities that fit for our team. There is really big choice of activities for for everyone's taste and skills.
Learning to work as a part of the team can benefit a lot to our company and bring better results, but it can also change the way how we function in society. It can teach us to improve our private relationships, friendships and family as well.To have better working environment, we create atmosphere of healthy competition, where we encourage cooperation and communication. Without all this, it will be harder to reach our project's goals.
